Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapeutic approach that helps you to process traumatic memories that are stuck and stored in your mind, body and emotional reactions.
By focusing on a distressing memory, the negative beliefs this brings up within you and the physiological sensations in the body that arise, whilst also using bilateral stimulation (e.g. eye movements, tapping), the therapy supports you to process the memory and sensations, so that it no longer leaves you feeling distressed in the here and now.
